Fog and mist lingered across St. Louis Tuesday morning as the city headed into a blustery, soaking day, with rain and a few thunderstorms expected to build from late morning through the afternoon. Temperatures may reach a high near 75°F, while winds are expected to gust 30 to 40 mph.
Rain Takes Over By Afternoon
The forecast includes a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday morning, with rain becoming increasingly likely after noon and reaching a 100% chance by the afternoon. Rain is expected to largely end from west to east overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, so wet roads, reduced visibility and gusty crosswinds could complicate the commute.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis says widespread severe storms are not expected, but Tuesday carries a marginal severe-weather risk. If stronger storms form, damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado are the main concerns, while isolated non-thunderstorm gusts above 40 mph are also possible this afternoon.
That is a sharper update from Monday's broader outlook. Hoodline's earlier forecast had already flagged Tuesday as the messy day, but the latest update adds a clearer afternoon thunderstorm threat and pushes the rain chance to 100%.
Quieter Wednesday, Then A Sunny Rebound
Wednesday should stay mostly cloudy with a high near 66°F and west winds of 10 to 15 mph. Clouds give way to a sunny, milder Thursday near 68°F, followed by partly sunny and cooler conditions Friday with a high around 62°F.
The weekend trend looks calmer, with mostly cloudy skies Saturday, sunshine Sunday near 60°F and sunny conditions Monday in the lower 60s. Overnight lows are expected to be in the mid-40s Wednesday night and the upper 30s over the weekend.
For Tuesday, keep outdoor plans flexible, secure loose items and use caution around flooded or water-covered roads. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for the St. Louis area, but the combination of rain, gusty winds and isolated stronger storms still calls for a little common sense.
