New York City is starting Thursday with mainly overcast skies, temperatures around 64 degrees and a sticky, late-summer feel. The mercury should climb near 70 before a few showers develop and a much wetter Friday takes shape.
Showers Build After A Mild Day
Thursday stays unusually warm for early November, with mostly cloudy skies and south winds between 5 and 12 mph. Light rain is possible from late morning through the afternoon, but the more organized weather arrives after dark.
According to the National Weather Service, rain becomes more likely late Thursday night, with showers and thunderstorms possible toward Friday morning. Overnight temperatures should remain around 60 degrees in most places, an impressively mild reading for November.
Friday Is The Wettest Day
Friday brings a near-total washout risk, with widespread rain Friday morning and only a slight chance of thunder, mainly in eastern sections, before steadier rain takes over. The high should reach about 68 degrees, then fall through the afternoon as the front moves across the region.
The New York City metro could pick up around a half-inch of rain, while heavier totals are possible farther east across Long Island and southern Connecticut. The setup favors a soggy morning commute and slick roads throughout the day, even though no land-based watches or warnings are currently posted for the city.
Weekend Brings A Cooler Reset
Rain should taper Friday night, opening the door to a mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 64. Sunday looks sunnier and cooler, topping out around 61 with overnight lows dropping to roughly 51 Saturday night and 47 Sunday night.
Monday and Tuesday stay dry and mostly sunny, with highs near 60 and 64 degrees. The humidity finally fades, leaving New Yorkers with a more recognizable early-November pattern after two unusually warm days.
Coastal Winds Pick Up
South to southwest winds of 15 to 20 knots are forecast over coastal waters east of Fire Island late Thursday night, with waves up to 5 feet. Gusts could reach 25 knots late Saturday night into Sunday. Small-craft conditions may linger into Friday on eastern ocean waters.
