Sunbelt Rentals is planning to build a 33,880-square-foot building for its Aerial Work Platform division on its Grapevine campus, along with a battery energy storage system designed to keep the facility running during power outages. The equipment and tool rental company's expansion plans were approved by the Grapevine City Council and planning and zoning commission at a joint meeting on Oct. 20.
The new building will be the sixth structure on the site and is set to be constructed on five acres that were added to the campus earlier this year, according to Community Impact. That addition brings the Grapevine campus to a total of 27.5 acres, and city documents identify those five additional acres as the site for the building.
The Aerial Work Platform division, which includes electric scissorlifts, scaffolding and boom lifts, is set to relocate to Grapevine from Arlington. The battery energy storage system will store power during off-peak hours and act as a generator, supplying electricity during high-demand hours or power outages, helping the facility conserve power according to the same report.
A Campus That Keeps Growing
The Grapevine site has expanded in stages over the past few years. The expansion traces back to 2023, when the Grapevine City Council initially approved plans for the Texas Trail facility, which included a training center and regional headquarters, per the outlet's reporting. That March, Sunbelt Rentals had plans approved for a new 23.320-acre development, a project that called for a regional headquarters and training center as the main building, plus four additional buildings to house heavy equipment and machinery.
By May 2024, construction was underway on the regional headquarters complex, with company officials saying at the time that the work should be completed later that year, the report noted. That headquarters building was designed to stand three stories tall, or 52 feet, and cover 41,790 square feet.
More Acreage Added This Year
Earlier in 2026, the company pushed for more room to grow. Sunbelt Rentals received unanimous approval for a conditional-use permit and rezoning request covering 5.13 acres during a joint meeting with the planning and zoning commission on May 19, the expansion folding into the existing 22.32-acre Sunbelt site at the time.
Construction contractor Crossland has described the broader Grapevine campus as a 105,177-square-foot complex spread across five distinct buildings on 17 acres, calling it a 43.2 million dollar project that achieved LEED Gold certification, according to Crossland. The addition of a sixth building for the Aerial Work Platform division, along with the new battery storage system, marks the latest step in the site's steady buildout since the city first signed off on the project in 2023.
