Cirque du Soleil's Mystère just hit a number few Las Vegas shows ever reach: 15,000 performances. The acrobatic spectacle at Treasure Island is being celebrated for the milestone, which keeps it in place as the longest-running show on the Las Vegas Strip.
The show has been running at Treasure Island since it premiered on December 25, 1993, according to Cirque du Soleil. As reported by KLAS 8 News Now, Mystère is celebrating its 15,000th performance, a number that reinforces its status as the longest-running production still playing on the Strip. Mystère was Cirque du Soleil's first permanent production there, opening at Treasure Island in 1993, per a separate 8newsnow.com report on the Strip's longest-running residencies.
The Mystère Theatre itself was notable from the start. It was the first permanent Cirque du Soleil theatre custom-built to a show's exact specifications, the company's press materials note. The production is presented exclusively at Treasure Island and features an international cast of more than 65 performers, according to information published by Treasure Island.
A Milestone Count Three Decades in the Making
Mystère's climb to 15,000 shows didn't happen overnight. The production celebrated its record-breaking 8,000th performance back on October 18, 2010, according to a release distributed via prnewswire.com. By the time it reached its 13,000th show, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that figure marked the most performances ever recorded by any Cirque du Soleil production, by a wide margin.
That staying power has made Mystère something of an institution within the company's portfolio. Las Vegas Weekly has described it as Cirque's longest-running production not just in Las Vegas, but worldwide.
Surviving a Pandemic Shutdown
Mystère's run wasn't without interruption. The show reopened alongside O in June 2021, with the Review-Journal reporting that the two were the first Cirque productions to resume performing in the company's COVID-19 relaunch. Las Vegas Weekly similarly noted that Mystère was the first of Cirque's Vegas shows to reboot after the shutdown.
Treasure Island responded to that comeback with a long-term commitment. Shortly after the show returned in 2021, the venue granted Mystère a 10-year contract extension, according to Las Vegas Weekly's reporting on the show's 30th anniversary.
How Mystère Stacks Up on the Strip
Mystère isn't the only long-running act in town. Tournament of Kings is described as the longest-running dinner show on the Las Vegas Strip, having started in 1990, according to 8newsnow.com's rundown of the Strip's longest residencies. Cirque's own O, created in 1998 as the company's second Las Vegas show per the same report, has built its own lengthy run at Bellagio.
At the time the Review-Journal tracked those numbers, O had logged about 11,000 performances, Ka had reached 7,500, and the touring production Allegria had tallied 7,252 — figures that reflect that earlier count rather than current totals. Mystère's climb past those marks and on to 15,000 shows underscores just how far ahead of the pack the Treasure Island original has pulled since its 1993 debut.
