UAB’s majorette audition process includes four categories: an individual routine, basic requirements, across-the-floor movement and a group routine, according to the university’s auxiliary program information. UAB scheduled its 2026 majorette and Blazerette auditions for Saturday, March 21.
The university also lists scholarships for auxiliary members: $500 for each of the first two years, $650 for the third year and $750 for the fourth. Those amounts apply to auxiliary members generally, rather than specifically to the majorette line, UAB says.
Tre Evans performs as UAB’s first male majorette, according to WVTM 13. The station reported that he began twirling with batons belonging to his mother, a former feature twirler, and later devised routines while watching majorettes at high school football games.
WVTM reported that Evans hopes his participation will show boys who are interested in baton twirling that they can pursue it. He believes concern about others’ reactions may have discouraged some from trying out. The station also reported that he shares his experience on social media, where he encounters both support and criticism, and chooses to answer negative reactions through his performance.
The university program details provide a view of the structure Evans performs within: its audition categories, schedule and multi-year scholarship amounts. His personal history and perspective in this account remain based on WVTM’s reporting, rather than independent interviews or reporting for this article.
