A 15-year-old boy is recovering at an Atlanta hospital after a driver struck him and fled while he was trick-or-treating in Warner Robins on Halloween night. The teen, identified by his family as Aiden Beck, suffered a bruised lung, facial fractures and bleeding in the frontal lobe of his brain, injuries his family says required specialized care far from home.
According to 13WMAZ, Beck was hit by a vehicle while trick-or-treating on Saturday night. Officers responded to the area of Kimberly Road near Lakeshore Drive around 8:34 p.m., per 41NBC. A preliminary investigation found that Beck and the vehicle were traveling in the same direction when he was struck, 13WMAZ reports.
Driver Fled the Scene, Police Say
Police say the driver did not stop after hitting the teenager, and the Warner Robins Police Department's Traffic Unit is now investigating the hit-and-run, according to the same report from 13WMAZ. Investigators described the vehicle as a passenger car or sedan; no details about the driver or any arrest have been released.
Beck's family told the station that his injuries included a bruised lung, facial fractures and bleeding in the frontal lobe of his brain. The family said he was transferred from a Macon hospital to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Arthur M. Blank Hospital, arriving in Atlanta around 10 a.m. Sunday, the station's report states.
Family and Police Appeal for Witnesses
As the family waits for answers, they have joined police in asking anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with knowledge of the hit-and-run can call the Warner Robins Police Department at 478-302-5378 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME, according to a report from Yahoo News.
Pedestrian Safety in Georgia Halloween night can pose risks for child pedestrians, and statewide data underscores the risks of walking in the dark. Georgia recorded 310 pedestrian traffic fatalities in 2023, down from 345 the year before, according to the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Pedestrian fatalities in dark conditions more than doubled over a decade, according to the agency's data. The statewide figures underscore the risks pedestrians face as the community searches for the driver who left him behind.
Halloween night crashes involving pedestrians, especially children, are a longstanding concern, and statewide data underscores the risks of walking in the dark. Georgia recorded 310 pedestrian traffic fatalities in 2023, down from 345 the year before, according to the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Half of all pedestrian crashes that year happened in dark conditions, the agency's data shows, and the same report counted 18 pedestrians seriously or fatally injured in Warner Robins between 2021 and 2023. None of that statewide data establishes a cause for Beck's crash, but it offers broader context for a community now searching for the driver who left him behind.
