The Woodland West Pool is in the middle of a major overhaul. The existing pool is being torn out and replaced with a brand-new aquatic facility.
What's Replacing the Decades-Old Pool
The replacement is a major change for a pool that has served west Arlington for decades. The city plans a total demolition and rebuild rather than another limited repair, turning the site into a broader aquatic destination.
According to the city, the new facility is planned to include a lap pool, a beach-entry leisure pool, and a play pool anchored by a treehouse play structure. The project also calls for a splash pad, a rock climbing wall, and a rope crossing activity for swimmers looking for more active fun in the water.
Beyond the water features, the plans include shaded seating, picnic areas, concessions, and restrooms. The project is focused on designing and constructing a new outdoor aquatic facility to replace the existing pool.
Residents had a role in shaping the amenity mix before construction began. Arlington used a survey to gather public input on the project as part of its public planning process.
Bond Funding
A city news article says Arlington voters approved $6 million to rebuild the pool as a mini aquatics facility as part of the 2023 Bond Program.
That same city article describes the planned facility as similar to, but smaller than, two of the city's existing family aquatic facilities, Randol Mill and Bad Königshofen. The comparison gives Arlington residents a sense of scale for what's coming to the Woodland West site.
The closure also temporarily removes one option from Arlington’s seasonal pool network. During the 2026 season, the city said Woodland West would be closed for construction while other outdoor pools and splash pads were scheduled to open, including the Randol Mill and Bad Königshofen family aquatic centers. The city lists those facilities among its public pools, alongside smaller neighborhood pools and an indoor option. The city’s 2026 seasonal notice identifies the alternatives available while Woodland West is rebuilt.
Renovation Timeline
The Woodland West Pool is expected to open for the summer 2027 pool season, with construction underway in 2026.
