Worcester is starting Thursday with mostly clear skies and temperatures near 59 degrees, but the warm spell is about to get a lot wetter. The city should climb to around 71 under mostly cloudy skies, with southwest winds of 7 to 12 mph and gusts up to 24 mph.
Rain Arrives In Stages
A slight shower chance pops up around noon Thursday, then rain becomes more likely Thursday night, especially between 8 and 11 p.m. Overnight temperatures stay unusually mild near 60, but patchy fog could make the late commute or early Friday drive feel murkier.
Friday is the main washout, with rain and fog likely all day, a high near 69 and a 100% chance of precipitation. The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office is forecasting roughly a quarter to half-inch of rain Friday, with additional rain Friday night; the Worcester forecast lists no watches, warnings or advisories.
Saturday Stays Damp Before A Cooler Turn
Saturday brings another chance of rain, with a high near 62, while Saturday night looks wetter and colder near 42. Forecasters say the prolonged rain could cause some poor-drainage or urban flooding, particularly where fallen leaves clog storm drains, though flash flooding is not expected.
Showers may linger into early Sunday before skies turn partly sunny, with a high near 57. By Monday and Tuesday, the pattern dries out: sunny afternoons in the mid-to-upper 50s, chilly nights in the 30s, and mostly dry conditions continuing into Veterans Day.
Warmth Fades After A Wet Weekend
Thursday’s 71-degree forecast remains well above normal for early November, but the weekend will bring a more seasonable feel. The shift is a substantial update from the early-week outlook that still had the rain mostly confined to Friday and Saturday; an earlier Hoodline forecast outlined the setup before the wetter details filled in.
