Wander on down to Hayes Valley this afternoon for their umpteenth semi-annual Block Party. The theme today is Mother's Day, so expect to see a special emphasis on flowers, wine, clothes, jewelry, and other items that everyone assumes women enjoy.

Highlights include: - Free wine and a discount giveaway at Azalea (411 Hayes) - Free cotton candy at Miette (449 Octavia) - Sidewalk chalk coloring contest at Fiddlesticks (508 Hayes) - Free mimosas at Acrimony (333 Hayes) - Specially-priced gift certificates at vbirk Flowers (227 Fell) - A special appearance by the The Creme Brulee Cart, from 1pm - 3pm (on Hayes between Octavia & Laguna) Between this event and next Saturday's NOPA Block Party (the neighborhood, not the restaurant), we're starting to think it's high time for a Lower Haight Block Party. There was one in 2006 billed as the "first annual," but that whole "annual" part seems to have been abandoned. How does a Lower Haight Block Party sound to you?
