Around 2:30am this morning, a violent assault occurred near the intersection of Webster and Waller. A victim is in critical condition and a suspect remains at large.

Police said the suspect attempted to run over the victim while driving a vehicle in the area of Webster and Waller streets shortly before 2:30 a.m. The suspect crashed into a pole, exited the vehicle with a bat in hand and beat the victim on the head and body, according to police.We'll update this post with any more information. Update 6/20/2010: CBS5.com reports that police have arrested 42-year-old William Valentine, and charged him with "attempted murder, mayhem, and assault with a deadly weapon." No further details were released about the victim, except that he or she and Valentine apparently knew each other, and that the victim is still in intensive care at San Francisco General Hospital.
