OK boys and ghouls -- now that Labor Day's behind us, it's officially time to start prepping for Halloween. Walgreens has stocked its candy aisle, Costumes on Haight has creeped up its windows -- and now, pop-up shop star Alex Pardee joins the fun with weekly Wednesday night horror movies.
Pardee, the extremely popular graphic illustrator who opened his Zerofriends pop-up shop on Fillmore two weeks ago, announced the movie series yesterday. The Movie Knights, as Pardee has dubbed his gang of co-conspirators, will be picking a different horror flick each week to show Wednesday night, from 8-11pm, in the Zerofriends space at 248 Fillmore. Of course, there's a catch! Since space is limited, if you want to attend a screening, you have a little work to do. Every Monday at noon, 20 mini-prints of the poster above will go on sale at Zerofriends for $10. This print is your ticket to the movie -- without it, you won't be let in. The movies will be 18+, and apparently Squat & Gobble is gonna supply some snacks during the screenings. Tonight's debut screening is the 1982 George A. Romero film "Creepshow", which, according to Roger Ebert, "plays like an anthology of human phobias." !!! The screenings will happen every Wednesday night for the next 7 weeks, and a full schedule will be posted soon. In the meantime, get on over to Zerofriends to snag a mini-print before they sell out, and prepare for a creepy night!
