If you have strong feelings one way or the other on Chase Bank's plans to open a branch on the 400 block of Divisadero, Wednesday night is your chance to speak up.
As you may recall, Chase intends to open a branch from 401 to 425 Divisadero, a stretch that formerly housed the Five Star Truffles and Country Cheese shops, which were ousted in January. (Five Star Truffles plans to open at 4251A 18th Street in "late March," while Country Cheese's plans remain unknown.) SF Appeal notes that at least one neighbor has filed an official appeal protesting Chase's plans, and a Facebook page has cropped up in opposition as well, but others in the neighborhood are supportive. Issues of concern include the anticipated effect on traffic, the size of Chase's proposed signage, and whether the city's formula retail rules apply to banks. Wednesday night, March 16th, the Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at which you can make your opinion known. The fun goes down at 5pm at City Hall, room 416. If the Board approves Chase's plans, things advance to the Planning Commission, which then decides if Chase gets a conditional use permit to begin construction on the branch. Can't make Wednesday night's meeting? Don't worry -- you can watch a live online stream on SFGTV. Or, if you just want to rant or rave, go ahead and leave a comment below.
