If you'd like to help the relief efforts in Japan while also shopping locally, Saturday's the day for you!
A group of local designers, entrepreneurs, and just plain civic-minded folks have quickly created Shop for Japan, a one-day event where businesses around the world can pledge to devote some portion of their revenue to relief-related charities. Though they just launched the site a couple of days ago, they already have over 30 businesses signed up -- many from San Francisco, but also shops from as far away as New York, Switzerland, Mexico, and Japan. The goal here is to make it as easy as possible for businesses to sign up, so that as word spreads about the event, more and more shops will participate. The Lower Haight's very own D-Structure is on board, but otherwise the neighborhood needs some more representation. So, if you're a local business owner and want to get involved, visit shopforjapan.com for more information. Otherwise, check out the map/list of participating businesses, and spread the word!
