Two benefit events are being planned to raise money for the victims of the July 20th fire which caused an estimated $1.3 million worth of damage to three houses on Waller Street.
The fire displaced residents at 434-436 Waller Street, which was home to three well-known San Francisco bluegrass musicians: Pam Brandon, Tom Drohan, and Gayle Lynn Schmitt. The residents have been told repairing the house will take eight months to a year. Friends and fellow musicians have already stepped up with offers of support, with some donating proceeds from recent concerts to the cause. Additionally, they're planning two events in the next two months to help raise funds for the victims. First, on August 30th, Cafe du Nord will host a concert dubbed "Twang to the Rescue" from 8pm to 11pm. Though the specific line-up and ticket info are still in the works, it's promised to include "a bill of local twang bands." The second event, being held on Saturday September 24th, is being described as a "family-friendly daytime event" at the First Christian Church at Noe and Duboce. Again, details are still in the works, but a raffle and/or silent auction is expected to be part of the plan. For info on both events, keep an eye on the 434-436 Waller Fire Relief Page on Facebook. In the meantime, if you'd like to get involved: To help organize the events, email [email protected]. To donate goods or services for the raffle, email [email protected]. Also, friends of the victims have set up a bank account to collect general donations for their recovery. To donate, you can send a check made out to "Waller Street Fire Relief Fund" and mail it to: Waller Street Fire Relief Fund c/o Circle Bank 3938 24th Street San Francisco, CA 94114
