Why Is the Lower Haight Being So Sensitive?

Why Is the Lower Haight Being So Sensitive?
It started with the hearts.

We didn't make much of the first one we spotted -- just a simple red squiggle on the sidewalk, somewhere on Fillmore. Nothing remarkable. Then, another.
And another. And another, and another. All over the neighborhood. Red hearts, blue hearts, solid hearts, heart outlines, hearts within hearts within hearts.
They are everywhere. There are even hearts-as-punctuation (apparently this tagger loves to height, whatever that means):
Then came the poetry.
Yes, it seems a poet who calls him/herself "Happy Monk" has been dropping nuggets of wisdom all around the neighborhood this week.
And much like the hearts, these suckers are everywhere -- on telephone poles and muni stops from Haight Street to Duboce Park. But not all emo street artists are craving mass exposure. Apparently, some would rather nurse their wounds well off the beaten track. For example, this sad, sad chalking at the corner of Page and Pierce:
THE REASONS YOU GAVE ME 1) I LIKE YOU MORE 2) YOU DESERVE BETTER 3) I'M TOO YOUNG / NAIVE Alright Lower Haight. We don't know if it's too many hugs or not enough, but something is throwing you off. We're that gritty/grimy neighborhood, not that neighborhood with all the hearts and poems and feelings. So, cut it out -- we've got a reputation to uphold here.
