Fire-Damaged Lower Haight Building Gets Semi-Beautiful Makeover
This week, the fire-damaged building at the corner of Haight and Fillmore got swathed in a giant white tarp, turning the structure into something approaching, well, beautiful?

Since the September 27th fire, the building has seen fairly constant activity, first with tenants retrieving items and workers pumping out water, and more recently with crews toiling away inside the damaged Fillmore Street storefronts (and political supporters scaling the scaffolding). All of that activity, now, lies shrouded behind a field of white. No word on how long the Christo-style cloak will remain in place, but regardless of how much we like the new exterior, we'll look forward to the day when the wraps come off. As for an update on the fire itself: we checked with the Fire Department again yesterday, and unfortunately there's nothing new to report -- the cause is still under investigation.
