Tamales, antennas, a guilty thief and an angry Chewbacca - it's a stranger mix than usual in this week's leftovers.

Tonight at Edo Salon (601 Haight), it's the opening reception for new works by Lower Haighter Kelly Nicolaisen. From 7pm to 10pm, enjoy beer, wine and music while perusing Nicolaisen's photography. The show will be on display through December 2nd.
Also tonight, D-Structure hosts the opening of The Deathside, new works by artist Nick Beery. The show is billed as "a dark tribute to Star Wars, pop culture, underground evil and a deathly farewell to the repetitious mutations of fan art." Expect pieces like this here decomposing Yoda:
Or, how about this militarized Chewbacca straddling a two-headed unicorn underneath a rainbow?
Enjoy limited edition prints and tees, Redhook beer, and music by DJ Ollie. This all happens tonight from 8:30pm to 11:30pm at D-Structure, 520 Haight Street.
Yesterday, the SF Planning Commission unanimously approved AT&T's plans to install 9 new antennas on top of 255 Steiner Street. The meeting was swift, with just one resident commenting (in opposition, for what it's worth). So, looks like that's gonna happen. If your AT&T reception in the Lower Haight improves noticeably in the near future, do let us know.
Looking for a job? Maven's hiring.
Speaking of Maven, a neighbor tips us that the restaurant is looking to expand its booze-slinging hours. RNM, the former occupant of 598 Haight Street, was licensed to serve liquor from noon to midnight, seven days a week. Maven, meanwhile, is looking to stretch those hours a bit, starting as early as 10:30am and as late as 1:45am on weekends. It's public comment time, so if you have any feelings on the matter, you've got about 2 weeks to weigh in with the folks over at ABC - 415-356-6500.
Do you like tamales? Sure you do. Stop by 735 Page Street on Sunday for some Twisted Tamales, a new venture from Lower Haighter Troy Henry. On the menu will be homemade creations including:
  • The Oso Blanco - traditional Mexican pork in a red sauce
  • Oh My Seoul - chicken in a spicy Korean sauce
  • Tamale Popper - cheese, hot chili and bacon
  • Vegemite - corn, sun dried tomato, cheese and chili
This tamalapalooza runs from 10am to 3pm on Sunday. Tell 'em Haighteration sent ya.
Finally, our favorite gem from this week's e-mailbag:
"I was intoxicated and took a blue pot with a ground cover from Waller, b/w Steiner and Fillmore. Oops. I feel bad... Is there a place to post a question to see if someone can tell me where I can bring it back to?"
If that sounds like your blue pot, let us know.
