Aline's Closet owner Aline Dazogbo shares the sad news that the two trees outside her store on the corner of Pierce and Waller are being cut down.

The trees, dubbed "Pierce" and "Waller" by Aline, were perhaps most recognizable for the benches at the base of their trunks, offering passersby some legitimate outdoor seating -- something that's actually pretty rare in this neighborhood. Unfortunately, the trees have died, and the city had no choice but to remove them. Waller was removed last night, and Pierce is being cut down this morning.
The corner today
Aline writes:
"I'm sad to see them gone, and think it will definitely change the flair of my little corner, but they were dead, dry and therefore the city decided... it wasn't safe anymore to leave them."
Here's a short video we shot this morning of Pierce being amputated. There's a potential silver lining for Aline, though. In a blog post yesterday, she noted:
'If what people say is right, if it really "opens up " the visibility of the store, then I'm happy to get more exposure and "sunlight"!'
There's also the chance that the trees will be replaced -- something Aline would definitely welcome.
'I'm not sure if the city is planting back new trees, but I pray "something great" will replace them. Something birds and butterflies like to hang out by.'
We'll keep an eye on it.
