Yesterday, a 5-alarm fire destroyed three buildings on Golden Gate Ave, injuring two people and displacing dozens of residents. It wasn't the Lower Haight, but it was close. And now a lot of our neighbors to the north need our help. Here's what to do.

If You'd Like to Donate Money
The Alamo Square Neighborhood Association has set up an online donation page to collect funds for those affected by the fire. You can also donate to the Red Cross by visiting www.redcrossbayarea.org or calling (888) 4-HELP-BAY.
If You'd Like to Donate an Item
Missionary Temple Church at 1455 Golden Gate Ave has agreed to serve as a dropoff point for donations. As of this morning, items that we've been told are needed include: For adults: New toiletries, new, clean socks, warm coats/sweaters, comfy sweats or pants, hats, scarves. For children: Backpacks, school supplies and age-appropriate gifts. We've also heard of at least one family with three boys between ages 10 and 13 who lost all of their christmas presents and school supplies in the blaze. Meanwhile, SFist reports that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be running a donation center at The Edge Bar (4149 18th Street) in the Castro this Saturday from 3pm - 7pm.
If You're a Displaced Resident
The Red Cross will be opening a service center for affected residents at the Missionary Temple Church at 10am Tuesday, Dec. 27th. If you need shelter or other assistance before then, call the American Red Cross Bay Area between 9am and 5pm Monday thru Friday at 415-427-8010.
We'll update with any additional information as we get it. Update: Here's a link to the event page for tomorrow's donation drive in the Castro, courtesy of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
