Christmas must be imminent, because the holiday festivities are coming fast and furious.
This weekend, the Lower Haight plays host to three events that aim to warm your heart, fill your belly, and bring a little holiday cheer to those who need it most.
First, on Friday night (December 16th), Vapor Room has organized a Potluck Benefit Dinner for U.S. Troops at Bean There Cafe. What to expect: a DJ, catered food, and good karma from 7pm to 10pm. What to bring: A non-medicated dish to share, and/or a sliding scale donation (both are optional). You're also encouraged to bring an item for the troops. Suggestions include: USB drives, gift cards from iTunes & Amazon, instant beverages, quality coffee, ear buds, comic books, magazines, dominoes, dice, playing cards, journals, books, non-perishable snacks like M&M’s & Twizzlers, Granola & Power Bars, Beef Jerky, or anything you think might be useful/desirable, as long as it's reasonably small and non-perishable. The donations will be sent to overseas troops before Christmas via the Swords to Plowshares organization. Vapor Room hosts a bi-weekly Veterans Support Group, which was how the idea for the potluck event came about. Any questions? Contact Vapor Room at mail [at] vaporroom {{dot}} com, or (415) 626-2100.
On Saturday, head to the Peacock Lounge (552 Haight) for the first-ever Lower Haight Holiday Market, presented by the Lower Haight Social Club. Featured food vendors include: Good Foods Catering, Hapa Ramen, Soul Desire Bakery, 3 Twins IceCream, Wing Wings SF, and the amazingly-named Banh Mi Love You Long Time. Meanwhile, gifts and miscellanae will be on sale from: Waggy Taylor Dog Treats, Skincare by Feleciai, Little Feather, Amour Ame, By The Season Catering, and Le Chaudron Magique. ...and more vendors to be announced. If you're a vendor interested in snagging a table at the Market, contact Christian ASAP -- christian [at] wingwingssf {{dot}} com. Along with shopping, eating, and generally enjoying yourself, you're encouraged to bring donations of canned goods and/or winter coats. This all goes down from noon to 5pm Saturday at the Peacock Lounge.
Finally, on Sunday, Two Jacks hosts its First Annual Toy & Book Drive. Enjoy the tasty soul food that Two Jacks is known for, plus hip hop music from EVENODDS. The event is free, but you're asked to bring a kid-appropriate toy or book -- all donated gifts will go to children in the local community. This runs from 5pm to 8pm on Sunday.
