If you hear the discordant but familiar tones of your favorite Christmas classics filling the neighborhood Thursday night, don't panic. It's just a wandering troupe of revelers doing their annual thing. And you can join them -- no talent required.
The event, dubbed "Cacophony Christmas," is now in its third year of inviting amateur singers to wander the city spreading off-key holiday joy to unsuspecting neighborhoods. This year, their journey begins at 7:30pm Thursday night in Duboce Park. The motley crew then heads up Pierce to Haight, over to Fillmore, down to Market, west to Castro, south to 16th, and then east till they reach their final destination at 16th and Mission. The 2011 songbook includes standard holiday staples like "Silent Night," "Jingle Bells," and "Deck the Halls," along with some non-holiday anthems of peace and love, like "What a Wonderful World," "Imagine," and "We Are the World." You can download the full songbook here -- you know, in case you want to practice. But don't practice too much. In 2009, one observer told the Chronicle that this was the "worst choir ever."
