With the Oscars coming up on Sunday night, we have art, music and expression on our minds here at Hayeswire. Check out what's going on in Hayes Valley and how it resembles the nominations for Best Picture.
THE ARTIST: JAMAICA DYER @ PUBLIC WORKS GALLERY Although this doesn't take place in Hayes Valley, this great mash-up opportunity is being co-sponsored by Isotope Comics & Noise Pop 2012. Jamaica Dyer is a multi-dimensional artist who will be doing a reading from her upcoming novel Fox Head Stew. According to Isotope's website, this will be "a live mashup of reading, concert, and art show." Accompanied by a "live soundtrack composed and performed by hand-picked musical guests," you need to check this out tonight from 5:30-6:30pm. [161 Erie Street] THE TREE OF LIFE: YOGA 201: BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING Yoga Tree, the yoga studio on Hayes between Octavia & Laguna, offers a plethora of classes, workshops and certification programs for future yoga teachers. This weekend they're hosting the second session in their series for beginners who already have a little experience. Along with an introduction to yoga ideas such as Yamas and Niyamas, the focus will be on backbends and the cost for this individual session is $40. Sign up here and help your body by giving it the attention it deserves today from 1:30-3:30pm. [519 Hayes] MIDNIGHT IN PARIS: MACARON CRAWLS ARE THE NEW BAR CRAWLS We have a large amount of French-inspired pastry shops that serve some of the most delicious treats you'll find. If you're sick & tired of the usual bar crawl, change things up and sample macarons from these bakeries that are waiting for you: Miette, Chantal Guillon and La Boulange are all within one block of each other. Easiest macaron crawl ever. [multiple locations]
If you have ideas of things to do this weekend that relate to any other nominations, please let us know. Check out the nominations and share what's going on.
