Mirkarimi, CVS, and Safety: Today's Public Meeting Bonanza
If you're free between 5pm and 8:30pm today, you've got not one, not two, but three Lower Haight-related meetings to attend -- with the futures of Ross Mirkarimi, CVS, and the very safety of our neighborhood at stake.

First up, it's the start of a possible 2-day public hearing in the Ross Mirkarimi case. The city's Ethics Commission is considering the case of Mirkarimi, our former District 5 Supervisor and current San Francisco sheriff. Mirkarimi was suspended by Mayor Ed Lee in March after pleading guilty to a count of false imprisonment stemming from a New Year's Eve altercation with his wife. The Commission is now considering the misconduct charges filed against Mirkarimi, and will ultimately decide whether to recommend to the Board of Supervisors that the charges be upheld. Not only will Mirkarimi's wife Eliana Lopez testify at today's hearing, but a public comment period will allow Mirkarimi's supporters -- and detractors -- to speak their minds. Should be interesting. That's 5pm today at City Hall, Room 416.
But don't linger, because at 6pm you've got to scurry to Cafe du Soleil for the CVS Open House. As we mentioned earlier this month, CVS plans to open a store at 499 Haight Street, in the fire-damaged former home of Walgreens. Tonight, reps for CVS will hold court at the cafe to "discuss [their] operational plans and introduce [their] vision for this project." What will the store's hours be? Will they sell alcohol? When are they expecting to open? Find out tonight at 6pm.
Let's hope that meeting doesn't run too long, because at 7pm the pleasure of your company is requested at the Peacock Lounge. That's the site of tonight's Lower Haight public safety meeting. SFPD Captains, District Supervisors, and other city officials will be on hand to hear about your recent experiences with crime in the neighborhood. Nibble on bites from Wonderland and Wing Wings as you meet neighbors, share tips, and learn ways to stay safe. That's 7pm to 8:30pm at the Peacock Lounge, and you can RSVP here.
Now, who's gonna be a Lower Haight all-star and go for the trifecta?
