Remember when we reported about that new artwork on the building at the corner of Market, Franklin, and Page? Well. It sounds like it won't be there for much longer.

We learned from CurbedSF that construction might be starting soon at 1600 Market. Currently home to the "Pasttime" mural (featured as the Cover photo on our Facebook page), this one-story triangle corner building will make way for six stories of housing and retail. At one time the proposed building was going to look something like this. With the abundance of all-glass buildings being constructed, some people might be relieved to hear they're moving toward something else. We couldn't locate the drawings, but Curbed describes it as "much more boring traditional massing with masonry and glass squares (but maintains that rounded corner)." In the end, the project will have 24 BMR (Below Market Rate) units, 12000 ft² of commercial/retail space on the ground floor, and no available parking. So, just to keep track, that's four housing and/or retail projects in our neighborhood along Market: 1) Market & Buchanan 2) Market & Octavia 3) Market (between Octavia & Laguna) 4) Market & Franklin/Page How are you all feeling about this much construction?
