The Zen Center is turning 50... but doesn't look a day over 25.
This past weekend, the San Francisco Zen Center celebrated its 50th anniversary. (To put that in perspective, next year is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's I Have a Dream speech) With a theme of "50 Years of Wisdom & Compassion," the organization held several events on Saturday and Sunday at their City Center at 300 Page Street. If you're bummed about missing out on the celebrations, we've got a surprise for you. They're hosting a few more today.

Beginning at 10:30am, participants will gather at the Sokoji-Soto Zen Buddist Temple in Japantown (1691 Laguna) for the Celebratory Procession. Starting off at the corner of Laguna & Sutter, the group will partake in a small ceremony at the Temple before walking down Laguna and back to our Zen Center.
(There will be shuttle vans running people from the Zen Center on Page to the one in Japantown between 9-9:30am)
Once you return to the SFZC, there will be a ceremony in the Buddha hall, an Inauguration of the Peace Bell, a few guest speakers, and then a catered meal provided by Greens Restaurant.
Can't be there in person to take part of the anniversary fun? No worries! You can stream it and watch the celebration from your office or apartment.
Happy 50th anniversary Zen Center. We hope we look good as you do when we turn fifty.
