Get those Kelly Kapowski Trapper Keepers and one-shoulder-only backpacks ready because kids are back at school.
Today's the first day of school for kids in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). With their headquarters located just a stone's throw away from us at 555 Franklin, the district is opening its doors this morning to nearly 55,000 students. The district is the 7th largest in California (only fitting for a 7x7 city) and that makes a few things complicated for our small town... including our neighborhood with John Muir Preschool & Elementary (380 Webster) within reach. Here are some things to consider whether you live near a school, will be dropping kids off somewhere today, or use public transportation: 1) If you park your car on the street, be careful for bus-loading zones. You've gotten used to parking in them past 7am during the summer, but starting today, you'll get ticketed for not making way for busses. 2) If you ride Muni or Bart, your bus might be busier (and louder) this week. Factor in some extra time to your commute. 3) Parents or Guardians might be dropping their kids off for their first time. There's a chance some could get emotional. Or linger. If you're worried about getting frustrated with traffic, avoid streets near schools if you can. Best of luck to all you kids and parents out there. And remember: don't stress out too much this week. It'll be alright... because you'll be saved by the bell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maVR_xOwe6g _________ Also: The French American International School begins next Thursday, August 30
