We have a few different updates we want to share. There's no real overarching theme, so we put the topics in a bag and picked them out in random order. Now that the great raffle of 2012 is over, let's get to it.
Random Carwash of Kindness? Things you (sadly) anticipate about your car on the street: receiving parking tickets for forgetting to curb your tires, getting robbed, or being towed for blocking a driveway. Things you don't anticipate to happen to your car on the street: someone giving it a free bath. A reader messaged us to explain a surprise she found when she got to her car yesterday morning: "This morning I went to move my car, it was on the Tuesday street sweeping side of Fell, between Buchanan and Webster, and I almost didn't recognize it because it was so sparkling clean! It was definitely not clean when I parked it there last night. I thought maybe it had rained, but my car was waaaay too dirty for even a downpour to clean." Did someone spend a few hours cleaning cars on Fell Street or was there a rainstorm none of us heard? Let us know if anyone else woke up to a clean car. Or knows what happened.
HVNA Meeting The monthly Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting takes place tomorrow, Thursday, August 23. The meeting will be at its usual spot - the Hayes Valley playground at the corner of Buchanan and Hayes. Things get started at 7pm and last until 8:30ish. We haven't been able to get hold of an agenda, but if we can before tomorrow night, we'll post it on here.
55 Laguna Parking Space Woes Speaking of the HVNA, the group is in disagreement with the San Francisco Planning Commission when it comes to available parking spaces at the in-the-works 55 Laguna. As pointed out in the SF Examiner, the 6 acre lot of land between Haight, Laguna, Hermann and Buchanan is scheduled to become "330 market-rate units and 110 units for low-income LGBT seniors" and will include a "public park, community center and community garden." The plans call for 310 underground parking spaces but the HVNA has been suggesting 165. The HVNA wants to lower the number due to the property's proximity to multiple bus routes. The Planning Commission claims elderly residents (who will compromise at least 1/4 of the available housing) can't all rely on public transportation, many of whom will prefer the easy access of their own cars. Once built, it will be the country's largest development for LGBT seniors.
