The San Francisco Examiner today posted an update to the controversy regarding drag queens being banned from The Castro Country Club's annual fundraising event at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, stating that Church officials have reversed their decision,
"Church officials now say the new policy is not a prohibition against drag queens, but rather an end to all one-time events that do not originate at the church. Poma said the ban applies to all outside events — gay or straight — including weddings, parties or fundraisers. The church is still planning to hold its own events, including 12-step programs, suppers for the homeless and AIDS support groups."The ban was supposed to take effect in September but has been apparently pushed forward to accommodate The Castro Country Club's event. The article did not make it explicitly clear as to whether or not The Castro Country Club was going to still host their event there, but it looks like they will need to find a new venue for next year.
