We've got a hands-on learning opportunity for you.

The Hayes Valley Farm is holding a series of lectures called An Introduction to Urban Agriculture - The Complete Course and it all begins this afternoon. The idea behind this four-part series is that you mix theory, practice and fun while learning about a wide range of topics regarding urban architecture. Or as the farm puts it, "from soil to community." Each class takes place at the Hayes Valley Farm (450 Laguna) and will include lectures and demonstrations. There will even be takeaways of items for participants to grow on their own. The topics for the four classes are: Sept 29: From the Soil Up - Design Fundamentals Oct 6: Plants, Pollinators, and Pests - Encouraging Healthy Ecosystems Oct 13: A Bigger Picture - Water, Climate, and Going Vertical Oct 20: The Human Element - Maintaining and Growing an Urban Agriculture Community Classes are from 12-5pm each Saturday with a break from 2-3pm for lunch. Each class costs $25 and you can sign up online.
