We need to talk about crime and safety in Hayes Valley.
A few concerned readers have reached out to us about different incidents happening in the neighborhood. And when we asked you to come up with questions for the upcoming Supervisor election, an overwhelming majority dealt with crime and safety. Another neighborhood blog, Local Addition, has been keeping track of a few crimes that have taken place around Hayes Valley. Here's a sample of what's been reported in the past week: 1) Aug 31: 30 year old man robbed at Lily and Octavia, suspects "ran up and punched the victim in the head" and stole his cell phone 2) Aug 29: 30 year old woman robbed at Franklin and Hayes, five suspects involved, woman was punched in the face and had her cell phone stolen 3) Aug 27: 27 year old man robbed in his own home at Fell and Octavia, laptop and tablet stolen Gut check: how are you all feeling when it comes to your safety? Do you think crime has increased recently, or has it always been like this and more things are getting reported (in addition to what isn't getting reported)?
