Emblazoned along a large wall on 16th Street near Sanchez stands one of the most enduring and largest pieces of Castro neighborhood street art. The mural created and maintained by the owner of the property the wall lines is dedicated to the Earth Goddess, Gaia, and all the colors, elements and wonders found upon her face. It also embraces and pays homage to the multicultural melting pot of local beliefs and spiritual practices among the many indigenous people's who call San Francisco home. The image incorporates paint, found objects, mirrors, plaster, moldings, and sculpture all in one. Nearly twenty five feet long and eight feet high the image is rife with small tid bits humor and whimsy. This is just a small photo that barely does it justice, but, we hope it inspires you to come pay it a visit and bask in it's beauty in person.
