For your weekend reading pleasure, here are a few little Hayes Valley news items that crossed our desks recently.
One sign that the SF Jazz Center is getting closer to completion: this week the owners officially applied for their booze license. The Center is still on track for a January 21, 2013 opening. This week, Eater reported that Straw (203 Octavia) has added a catering service to its menu, meaning your next private party can feature locally-made carnival food. They're even offering free cotton candy spun onsite for parties of 50+, Eater notes. Fun stuff. Are you looking for a job in Hayes Valley? You've got lots of options. According to Craigslist, Fatted Calf, Absinthe, Jardiniere, Marine Layer, Smitten, and Boxing Room are all hiring. In creepy news, the Examiner reported that a "prolific stalker" named Greg Hayes was recently sentenced to 28 years in jail. The main reason the story interests us is that Hayes has allegedly claimed to own Hayes Valley. Which is bold. And ending things on a happier note, today from noon to 2pm, employees of Flax Art & Design (1699 Market) will be painting kids' faces to get your little monsters excited for Halloween. No word on whether they'll paint adults' faces, too, but it's worth a shot... Know of anything else going on in Hayes Valley this weekend? Shoot us an email at tips [at] hayeswire {{dot}} com.
