Today is Veterans Day, and as such, it's time for San Francisco's 93rd Veterans Day Parade, which will be cruising down Market Street towards our neck of the woods this afternoon.
The parade begins at 11am at Second and Market, then heads down Market, turns right on McAllister, and continues to Civic Center Plaza, ending at Polk and Grove. The parade should be complete around 3pm. This year's parade will feature a special salute to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It'll also include veterans carrying flags from all 50 states, veterans on horseback, 100 veterans who are homeless, a tractor-trailer carrying a Vietnam-era helicopter, a caravan of 100 motorcycles, and Mayor Ed Lee. So, lots to take in. If there are any Hayes Valley veterans (or families of veterans) out there, thanks for your service. If you join today's parade, or just watch it, let us know how it goes!
