2012 Castro St. Fair Poster
Producers of the 2012 Castro Street Fair held their check distribution party at the Lookout bar in the Castro on Tuesday, December 11 and beneficiaries of numerous local nonprofit organizations took home a share of the $76,327.21 that was raised in gate donations. All monies raised at Castro Street Fair, like other LGBT, San Francisco street fairs, minus operating expenses, are gifted to non-profits that serve the community in a variety of manners.
Some of this year's benefiting organizations were AIDS Housing Alliance/SF, Bears of San Francisco, the Castro Country Club, San Francisco Fog Rugby, and the Native American AIDS Project all of whom supplied a large amount of volunteers to help staff the fair. The amount raised this year is slightly less than 2011 year's $85,000.
Plans are already underway for the 2013's Castro Street Fair which will be held Oct. 5th in it's traditional first week end of October slot. The Fair has been a part of our community since Harvey Milk and a handful of dedicated LGBT activists first started it in 1974. Over it's 39 years it's raised millions in support of local non-profits and had a bevy of starts grace it's stage including the late Sylvester, SF infamous 90's Indie band 4 Non-Blondes, and Tony nominated star of Broadway, Mx Justin Vivian Bond. 2013 is shaping up to be as equally successful and we can't wait to see what the Board has in store for us.
