Lower Haight Leftovers: Death in the Afternoon EditionMaven's "Death in the Afternoon" cocktail
Maven's "Death in the Afternoon" seemed like an appropriate choice for leftovers today, what with this both being Maven's first birthday and possibly our collective last day on earth.

There's not much to report today, but here's what we've got for ya.
There was a fantastic off-key caroling event planned for tonight, but it's been canceled due to rain in the forecast.
If you missed the opening of artist Sam Flores's show at Fifty24SF last week, you can check out the gallery's photos from the event. Then get down to Fillmore and see the show for yourself.
A member of the Lower Haight community and a friend of Haighteration is facing a tough medical situation, and his friends are stepping up to help. Mikey Harms, who was part of the Lower Haters crew (along with his basset hound Elwood - scroll to the bottom here), is fighting a very scary-sounding brain disorder called Chiari Malformation, in which the cerebellum slips down into the base of the skull and blocks the flow of spinal fluid. The only treatment is surgery, and now some of Mikey's friends are rallying to organize a benefit event to help cover his significant medical costs. On January 12th, they're hosting OUT OF HARM, a fundraiser and DJ-heavy dance party at Public Works. The event will run from 10pm to 4am, and advance tickets are available here. If you can't make it, or even if you can, you can also make a donation to the fundraising effort over on this WePay page.
On a lighter note, a reader points us to this unique video portrait of the Lower Haight:
And finally, another reader points us to a very different video filmed in the neighborhood. It's just... we don't... oh just watch it.
See? Not much left over this week. But if we missed anything, do let us know. tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
