If you're the type who decked your halls with boughs of holly, we hope you enjoyed your Christmas. But it's time to move on.
In San Francisco, this is officially the week to put your Christmas tree out to pasture. From today (well, yesterday) until next Friday, Recology will be making the rounds and picking up the city's discarded firry friends. Just strip your tree of all its decorations, then drag it down to the curb on your usual collection day and leave it next to your bins, and Recology will do the rest. If the tree is over six feet tall, they just ask that you cut it in half. (If it's over twelve feet tall, you should probably cut it into thirds? Also, congrats on your high ceilings.) Your tree will then be tossed in a wood chipper and converted into boiler fuel. Errr... we mean, sent to a farm up north where a nice family will take care of it. Something like that. Oh -- and if you happen to spot a Christmas tree on the sidewalk, please don't set it on fire. We've gotten a few reports of that happening around Hayes Valley. It's not a good thing to do. So, don't. Really.
