Hi Tops, the Castro's first Gay sports bar, opened to great fan fare not too long ago. Residents and visitors to the neighborhood have quickly gravitated to it's sixteen flat screen televisions, fantastic bar food designed by chef Jamie Lauren of Top Chef All Stars fame and the good spirited and rambunctious nature of a all sports/all the time loving crowd.
Castro Biscuit has been posting on Hi Tops progress since day one when it was first announced that they'd be taking over the space that'd housed the much despised Lime Bar & Restaurant. Lime lost its license after repeated warnings by the ABC for serving underage patrons and its unchecked, general mayhem/public disorder the bar produced most week ends.
Crowds have been thick inside Hi Tops at 2247 Market Street since they're grand opening. We've wanted to give readers a virtual photo tour but have had a hard time finding the popular new addition to the Castro empty enough to get clear shots. Luckily for us that finally, with the assistance of a gray, drizzly, Wednesday afternoon, we managed to get this series done. Thanks to owners Jesse Woodward, Matt Kajiwara, and Dana Gleim and their excellent staff for their kind cooperation.
