A woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Wednesday morning after being hit in the back of the head with an unknown object while walking down Hayes Street.

An SFPD spokesperson told us that the woman, a 21-year-old San Francisco resident, was walking east on Hayes near Franklin around 10:13am Wednesday when she was struck in the back of the head. She turned around and spotted a man running westward on Hayes toward Octavia. The suspect is described as a black male, 5' 9" tall and weighing 160 lbs, wearing black sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt. The suspect did not attempt to take anything from the victim. Medics arrived on the scene and treated the woman, who was bleeding from the head, and then transported her to San Francisco General for further treatment. Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening. Police could not say whether the victim and suspect knew each other. They noted that the victim refused to give much information to police, describing her as "uncooperative." If we learn any additional details, we'll update this story.
