Speed Dating for Valentine's Day Presented by SF Dept. of Public Health at Hi Tops
Dating can be a blood sport in the Castro. Barraged by internet hook up sites like Grindr, Adam 4 Adam and Scruff romance is often a missing component in today's rough and tumble quest for Mr./Ms. Right. Pictures lie, stats are exaggerated and ages smudged. It can all be demoralizing and less than a good time.
Face to face meets where sparks and physical tension felt down in your gut can't be beat. To help get the fire started down below the San Francisco Dept. of Public Health have teamed up with the neighborhood's newest hot spot, Hi Tops, home of Cold Pitchers and Hot Catchers, to host a pre- Valentines Day, old school, Speed Dating event for single Gay/Bi men on Feb. 12th.
This night of Valentine adventure is the brain child of the SF Dept. of Public Health-STD Prevention & Control Section.
Single Speed Dating will look something like this:
Men will be assigned a number.
Meet and greet follows.
Silliness and awkward exchanges. Sparks fly. Flirting encouraged.
Afterwards each participant is given a slip of paper to mark down who they're possibly interested in connecting with.
After a 90 second interaction with each of the other participants their papers will be collected and a team from the organizers will tally up the matches.
Marked slips of papers are then returned to the participants so they can find out which of the men they're interested in is also interested in them.
Love connection? Interest? Get totally laid? Meet new pals? All possibilities within the match making system.
At least that's the general idea but organizers confess there's plenty of wiggle room for doing one's own thing. Its not suppose to be taken to seriously it's supposed to be fun (and FUNNY).
Above all its an opportunity for men to meet each other, Mano e Mano, suss up the vibe, talk, flirt, and by all means laugh before one sees where the night may take them.
Gift bags filled with all the right stuff on having safer sex from the Dept. of Public Health will be handed out along with hopefully more than a few numbers.
