Remember four months ago, when we reported that red Muni-only lanes were about to be painted on Church Street? Well, Muni being Muni, there was a delay. But it looks like it's finally happening, starting today.

The two center lanes of Church Street will be painted red and will be designated for use only by Muni vehicles and taxis. By separating Muni buses and trains from regular traffic, the lanes will supposedly reduce delays on the 22-Fillmore and J-Church Muni lines. According to an SFMTA advisory, from 5am this morning until 1am tonight, the J Church will only operate from Church and Market to points outbound, as the lanes are painted. Church Street further south to 16th Street will be painted on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, but the J will keep on running. This is all weather-dependent, but it's a clear blue sky this morning, so we're guessing it's happening. So, plan accordingly.
