BREAKING: Equality California's Castro Office RobbedEQCA Logo
EQCA LogoLast night thieves broke into the Equality California (EQCA) Castro office at 2370 Market Street next to Catch restaurant and made off with an estimated three to five thousand dollars worth of computers and equipment. EQCA staffers arrived this morning to find broken glass littering the floor from where the culprits had scaled the iron security gate, broken out a front window, and shimmied into the office. They made quick work of it gathering up a desktop computer, flat-screen monitor and two laptops. Most staffers use personal computers and had taken them home or the haul would've been significantly higher. The thieves, unsatisfied with what they had found, tore through the office in search of other booty to pinch, but came up short leaving the space in a shambles.

EQCA has been running a tight ship since the defeat of Prop 8. Donations dipped and adding fuel to the fire of financial pressure is the overall bleak economic times that all non-profits have been experiencing. EQCA posted their story on the organizations Facebook page and the community response was heartfelt and immediate. Within hours they'd received donations to cover the expensive window replacement and have it installed making it unneccessary to post a guard to watch the store this evening.

Shaun Osburn, EQCA's Onlline Director, whose office took the brunt of the abuse said, "My heart sank at the sight because I knew some of the hardware would be missing. This is a terrible frustration in the midst of an incredibly important legislative session." EQCA Castro office can use your help replacing their stolen computers so they can continue to fight for LGBT equality. You can donate directly to the fund that's been specifically set up for this purpose alone at: www.eqca.org/sf-office SFPD was notified and sent over officers to investigate. Right now they and EQCA are hoping that someone in the community saw something suspicious last night that can lead to the apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators. If you or anyone else you know saw anything that you think will help in the investigation you can contact Officer Guillory, Badge #1806, at the Mission Station or call 415-558-5400.
