This past Saturday, the 6th Annual Dogfest in Duboce Park, the largest dog party in San Francisco, saw massive crowds and perfect weather for a day of fun that helped raise much-needed cash infusion for SFUSD McKinley Elementary School, a K-5 public school at Castro and 14th Streets.
San Francisco's swelling pupulation, er, population is rumored to have more dogs than children. Dogfest is the perfect melding of the two into one spectacular day. Several thousand citizens turned out for the annual event and were treated to a warm sun and a sweet Spring day breeze. For the kids: Face painting, carnival style games, Busy Bee Dog Show and blow up playhouses. For the Pups: Everyday Dog Show awarding accomplishments like 'Best Ears', treats, proud owners showing off their four-legged kids for all to see and packs of new friends to sniff and greet.
The whole goal of the day beyond having a great time was to raise money for the Castro's McKinley Elementary School. Between the Silent Auction, corporate donors generosity and the concerted hard work from all the volunteers resulted in nearly $103,000 being raised according to a post made on the Dogfest Facebook page.
It was hard not have a great time-especially if you're a dog lover. Every sort of breed and combination of breeds was in attendance. Also on site was a 'Rescue Zone' where local dog rescues brought along deserving, adoptable pups in search of fosters or hopefully a new forever home and family.
The Biscuit wandered about and we managed to catch great pix of a few of the attendees.
