Potential Parklet Coming to Grove Street
It seems to be sprouting parklets in Hayes Valley. Last week we gave you an update on the Mercury Cafe parklet. This week, we bring news that Oxenrose Salon (448 Grove) and Kappazakka (460 Grove) have begun petitioning for a parklet as well.

Twitter follower @uppityfag recently tipped us to a sign that Oxenrose has put in their window announcing plans for a parklet. The signs gives readers an inkling of what to expect with their proposal, but it also hints that they need to generate public interest before the project can gain traction. Read the letter below:
Oxenrose Salon located on 448 Grove Street and Kappa Zakka located on 460 Grove Street are applying for a parklet to be constructed in front of both locations. With an objective to construct a space for patrons of Grove Street and Hayes Valley to enjoy, we feel this effort will encourage more foot traffic on the street to benefit local businesses and neighbors. The parklet will take the space of 2 parking spots and plan to have benches and tables for anyone in the neighborhood to utilize. As Kappa Zakka is under renovation and plans to re-open with a beer and wine bar with small bites available, the parklet will be perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy Kappa Zakka’s new offerings as well as any other local businesses’ products. This will be a NO smoking parklet. The parklet will be available for all neighbors to enjoy – not only will the design add an attractive aesthetic to the street, but will encourage a safer and cleaner neighborhood. Please show your support by signing the Parklet Petition and/or submitted a Letter of Support to the contacts below. Thank you for your support! Parklet Petition Location: Oxenrose Salon (Front Desk) 448 Grove Street (415) 252-9723
We were unable to get a hold of Oxenrose for further insight into their plans, but as soon as we do, we will keep you updated. Personally, we would love to see more parklets pop up around Hayes Valley. Not only does it encourage people to stay, take a break and enjoy the cityscape, but it also adds a bit of character to the neighborhood. Do you think a particular location in the area should have a parklet? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.
