Over on 18th Street tucked between Eureka and Douglas sits Castro's newest Dim Sum style restaurant. Formerly Queen Malika Cafe, known for their crepes and coffee, the new restaurant is named Mama Ji's (4416 18th Street) and acted as a popup in the Cafe space before taking over full-time. The folks at Eater SF had a moment to sit down with the restaurant's owner and ask a few questions, but not before Lili Ji insisted on feeding them nearly "half the menu." According to Eater the food is pretty good. Among the dishes to note, Eater says, is the restaurant's Shanghai-style soup dumplings, steamed rice with Chinese sausage in a lotus leaf, and a vegan steamed vegetable bun. Nom. The night-time menu boasts Szechuan-style plates with some of the restaurant's recommendations being the Chongqing spicy chicken, Nam Yu spareribs with tofu, or the silky tofu with beef. If you're looking for a new place to have dinner in the Castro tonight, consider moseying on over to Mama Ji's or heading over tomorrow afternoon for a Dim Sum lunch. Hours are 9:30AM - 9:30PM everyday save for Mondays when they'll close at 6:30PM.
