Snapshot-2013-02-25-20-59-03The Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District released a survey asking Castro residents their opinions on Jane Warner Plaza and for suggestions on how to help "activate" the space. The CBD recently received a grant of $10,000 from the city to help expand the entertainment offerings in the plaza and hired Creative Director, Kile Ozier, to oversee that effort and the "LIVE! In the Castro" music and poetry events the CBD puts on every summer. The survey will help the CBD and Ozier determine ways to help clean up the plaza, put it to good use, and curb undesired use of the plaza. The plaza has been involved in many controversies recently including the nudity ban and the homeless contingent that filtered to the plaza after the CBD removed the benches from Harvey Milk Plaza / Castro Muni Station. The solution to discouraging the homeless from hanging out in the plaza was to remove the seating there, too; the CDB removed most of the tables and chairs from JWP, temporarily, as suggested by the SFPD in order to put a stop to the homeless joining tables together and congregating in the plaza. The plaza is also set to be repaved as part of the Castro Street Design project. If you're interested in adding your two cents to the future plans for activities in Jane Warner Plaza, consider filling out the CBD's survey.
