What a historic week-end in the Castro. We will have more pix and stories up later today but wanted to follow-up on the avalanche of marriages that have been occurring since Wednesday when the US Supreme Court let Prop. 8 die and DOMA was partially dismantled. As we posted this week-end the first couple to get married once the 9th Circuit Court of Federal Appeals gave the go ahead to kick-start same-sex marriage again were two of the Prop. 8 plaintiffs and Berkeley residents, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, tied the knot Friday afternoon becoming the first since Prop 8 halted marriage in 2008. Since than 479 couples have been married in SF at City Hall alone-and a large number of those during Pride Celebrations on Sunday-others in neighborhood ceremonies in Castro back yards, atop Mt. Tam and out at Ocean Beach. One of the couples, Biscuit supporters, SFBG Business Woman of Year 2012 Glam-a-Rama Salon owner, Deena Davenport-Conway and barber partner Gunner Conway stood in line with other expectant pairs waiting their turn to get officially hitched despite the fact that they were just wed in front of those who truly matter-family and friends-just two short weeks ago. "Waiting in line for our marriage certificate with all of these other couples that are in love! I love that we are a community whose common connection is love. What a wonderful and historic day!!!", Deena wrote to all her pals on Facebook. Nothing could be more true. SF Appeal posted a great Flickr slide show of couples who took part in these ground-breaking committment events from City Hall. Check it out the joy and love is palatable. Congrats to all those who took part and others waiting their turn. Now. On to smashing ENDA and securing freedom from discrimination in the workplace for all and defeating marriage foes in the rest of the country.
