Summer in San Francisco is at full tilt boogie with beautiful weather almost every day. The City is crammed to the gills with tourists looking for the next cool thing to do, but, you have the advantage of insider knowledge being a member of the home town team. Here's what's on deck this week-end in the Gayborhood. Kippy MarksSaturday, August 24th kicks off at Jane Warner Plaza (Market & 17th St) for another in the series of FREE shows produced by the Castro Community Benefit District. Today's offering, Improv-O-violinist Kippy Marks at 3PM. Kippy combines a unique mixture of world music, jazz, and classical to create one of a kind compositions that have been entertaining audiences for two decades. Did we mention it was FREE? showgirls2013At 6:30PM join Peaches Christ and her crew of faux queens, real queens and scream queens for the 16th anniversary presentation of 'Showgirls: Night of a 1000 Showgirls' at the Castro Theatre (429 Castro St). If you buy a large popcorn you'll be the lucky recipient of a lap dance from one of the many San Francisco beauties who'll be on hand to offer their talents like Lady Bear. Peaches campy pre-shows are legendary and this one should be a no-holds-barred kind of evening with a re-worked NOMI-PALOOZA planned and several surprises. Special guest star is Rena Riffle-Penny-from the film! Come early and get great seats. You can still get tickets from here. Swing Jam Monthly Dance PartyIf you're looking to do a bit of dancing but don't feel quite up to being mauled at one of the neighborhood's packed club dance floors we suggest you check out the monthly Swing Jam Dance Party over at Magnitude (4122 18th St.) that starts at 7PM. All levels of skill welcome. Easy basic Swing instruction given before the event by knowledgeable dance tutors starting at 7PM. The dance officially jumps off at 7:30. $10 suggested donation, but, no one turned away for lack of funds. This event is spearheaded monthly by SFSwingJam.com.   Warhol - Drag PutinSunday, August 25, start your day off by going to church. Well actually a peaceful demonstration in front of a church. At 11AM, post worship and services, Gays Without Borders and BoycottRussianVodka.com, are holding an informational picket and speak out in front of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church (2005 15th St) in the Castro.  Their church leader, Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill I, is an outspoken supporter of the recently passed, Putin endorsed, anti-gay legislation in Russia. More info and the press release can be found here. Bring placards, posters, rainbow flags and show support for the oppressed LGBT people of Russia. Int'l Go Topless DayAfter the protest you can head over to Dolores Park (18th St & Dolores) at 12PM and take part in the SF edition of International Go Topless Day. This event is part protest, part fun and all about empowering women. Thrown since 2007 in conjunction with Aug 26th, US Congress recognized, Women's Equality Day. Women's Equality Day was enacted to commemorate women getting the vote in 1920 and a demand for gender equality in all things. This day of breast baring hopes to help break societal taboos about women's bodies and public nudity. SF has a public nudity ban on the books, but, this event is most likely exempt so drop the tops, flash your boobs and support our Sister's right to get sun like any dude. rudicals_logoAfter all that exposure take your freshly sun-kissed hide back to Jane Warner Plaza (Market & 17th St.) for another FREE concert at 1PM by the much-loved, local crew, The Rudicals. They're a 4th wave, Ska band started by current and former members of such bands as Jimmy Two Times, The Conspiracy, Blind Spot, Tin Circus, and RU36. The band draws it's influence from classic SKA legends like The Toasters, The English Beat, The Specials, and The Skatalites. Their shows are pure joy and the music is infectious. This is part of the CBD Live! In the Castro Summer Music series and like all it's predecessors FREE! castro-biscuitAs always this is just a fraction of what's happening in the always changing, kinda crazy, world of the Castro. If we missed an event or you have one coming up you'd like to have included please submit it to our event page.
