The weekend approaches and the neighborhood is chock-full of fun-filled clubs, movies and events. Here is a sample of some of our hot picks to check out and remember if you've got an event you'd like listed please submit it. SilenceFirst up on Friday, 8PM over at Magnet is the art opening of Zeb McGarigle titled The Sound of Silence and is part of Magnet's ongoing commitment to previewing local artists every month. The Castro Theatre is breaking all the rules Friday through Sunday when they present 'Trapped in a Closet' a sing-along hosted by Laurie Bushman and Sara Moore running nightly at 8PM.  From the Castro Theatre: R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet is a pop culture phenomenon like nothing else. What began as three R. Kelly Trapped in the Closetsimple soap opera-y songs has led to multiple albums, several DVDs, a web series, and a television broadcast on IFC. And now Trapped in the Closet is ready for the big screen. This interactive extravaganza features a "Dance Party Warm-Up" featuring subtitled music videos for "Bump 'N Grind," "Step in the Name of Love," and, of course, "Ignition (Remix)." The main feature is equipped with custom subtitles encouraging everyone to sing-along throughout the first 22 chapters of R. Kelly's masterpiece hip-hopera. So forget about The Room. Don't worry about Rocky Horror. The R. KELLY TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET SING-ALONG is the new cult classic theatrical experience! chitty-chitty-bang-bangStarting Saturday the 4th there's plenty of family friendly camp available for everyone to enjoy. At 2PM things kick off with a bang, actually a Chitty, Chitty Bang-Bang, when, for the first time, the Castro Theatre presents the Sherman Brothers' family fantasy 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' sing-along style! Bring your vocal chops to the show with such memorable numbers as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,"  "Truly Scrumptious," "Hushabye Mountain" and "Toot Sweets." In addition to belting out the tunes, audience members can add to the fun by dressing up as a favorite character for the costume contest. The event will be hosted by Laurie Bushman and D'Arcy Drollinger. If you can't make this show it runs again on Sunday at 2PM. 3PM over at Jane Warner Plaza the tradition of Queer Flagging returns to the Castro. The Castro Community Benefit District presents the art form that first made its appearance in discos in the City in the early 70's. Princess Bride posterOn Saturday night grab a blanket, camp chairs and a pack of your pals and head over to Dolores Park for Free Movie Night in the Park; an ongoing series that lasts all summer. Tonight's selection, 'The Princess Bride'. Filled with snark, laughs, and immortal lines that have been quoted since the movie was first released in 1987. Sunday, many of the Castro bars including The Mix, Edge and The Lookout are hosting fundraising beer bust or drink specials aimed at supporting local LGBT sport teams and causes. One of the longest running is Jock at the Lookout. Check them all out and support local teams while having fun. Also on Sunday at 3PM The Buds, a four piece rock ensemble, will be playing a free concert at Jane Warner Plaza as part of the LIVE! In the Castro concert series.
