The team behind Hayes Valley restaurants Absinthe, Arlequin, and Boxing Room will next be expanding their empire to SoMa.
Absinthe Group has filed for an alcohol license at 888 Brannan. That address is home to the new headquarters of AirBnB, as well as the GiftCenter & JewelryMart. (It was also the site of a nasty shooting incident in July which left two jewelry store clerks dead.) We spoke to an Absinthe rep on Saturday, who told us the group likes to space their new projects out every two-and-a-half years or so. With Boxing Room opening in June of 2011, the time is right for a new venture. She added that the lease on 888 Brannan is not signed yet, so nothing is definite. Inside Scoop adds some details from Absinthe founder Bill Russell-Shapiro. The unnamed restaurant will be roughly 5,400 square feet, with a large bar, private dining room, and sidewalk seating. If all goes well, look for this one to open some time in the summer 2014 timeframe.
