Yesterday morning, the SF Bicycle Coalition set up a station at the intersection of Scott and Page Streets with a message to passing bicyclists: please bike politely.

According to the Bike Coalition itself, the outreach involved its staff, plus volunteers, neighbors, and District 5 Supervisor London Breed, all working to encourage good behavior by cyclists. They thanked cyclists (and drivers) for respecting traffic laws, including yielding to pedestrians and "taking their turns." They also gave out coffee and bagels to passersby.

One witness to yesterday's event told us, "There was a lot of positive energy from everyone at the intersection. Neighbors crossing the street were particularly appreciative. I hope to see this happen on a regular basis." Based on the comment thread from our story yesterday, there's still plenty of tension between drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians along the Wiggle. If outreach like this helps everyone coexist more peacefully, it's fine by us...
